Childhood Series

When I was little I loved to watch Art Attack, even if I was never good at crafts or anything related to art.

Each episode gave me a new world of creative possibilities, so I spent so much time creating figures, masks made of toilet paper and balloons, muppets and what I am most ashamed of confessing: I tried to make a figure with old clothes for almost 4 hours. Spoiler Alert: It ended up looking too ugly, but it is what it is.

Another TV show was “Hi 5: five sens”. To be a little honest, I do not remember the plot a lot, but I did realize that I was growing when I kept falling asleep on every episode. It was very shocking to me.

I have to confess that I was a huge fan of Courage: The cowardly dog. I loved it back then and I am still loving it, I guess that's why I rewatch the show from time to time, but I have to say that it was way creepier when I was a kid.

The neon lights tour

Demi Lovato’s concert was on May 8th, 2014 at Movistar Arena. 

They are a pop music artist, screen performer and a political and LGBTQ+ community activist.

The atmosphere was pure magic due to the screams of the fans, the live music, and obviously, the amazing voice of Lovato. I was only a few feets apart from them and I was so mesmerized that I left the camera work to my dad. It almost felt like a personal show for me. A religious experience.

 

I was in heaven because I really love them as a human and as an artist. I remember that the line to get in was way too long, but I sneaked into the front entrance with my dad. I heard complaints from the others but I did not care at all. After the show the screams kept replaying in my head for two days. The post concert depression was awful, it still is because they canceled one of the latest shows in Chile due to an overdose.

My American dream

 I would like to go to the United States just to feel like I am in a movie and to be closer to my favorite artists. I imagine myself walking down the streets of Manhattan and running into Demi Lovato. I would love to live there and make my American dream come true by becoming a writer and photographer, because the buildings and parks are like muses to artists. 

I would like to go buy clothes and cool stuff to sell them in Chile and earn some money from them. I would also like to visit The Museum of Modern Art, but most importantly, I want to try every good looking American food.

All I know about U.S.A it is due to the movies. For example, I know that there are mouses in the subway, and it is like going on a roller coaster. I also have been told that going on the train is expensive and trying to buy the tickets is difficult to understand. 

A hobbie that stayed in me

 Since I learned how to write I never let go of the pencil. I remember that my hobbies were to create new languages with their respective dictionaries, and to teach my classmates so they would learn it. But I also spend whole days making stories, books and poetry of any tematic. Creativity never stops me and that is why I decided to study journalism, even though the process is like going against the tide because of all of the injustice, I always find a way to see the positive side. 

Journalism impacts society because we are the bridge to democracy, however, all the good and bad things that can be made in this career will have consequences in the world. We are the butterfly effect, and as such, we have impact because of the investigation, interviews and news. A tiny grain that makes politicians, murderers and every bad person in the world stagger.

The postgraduate courses that I wish for

Hello! Today I will tell you about two postgraduate courses that I need to take: cultural journalism and book edition. When I decided to study journalism, it was because it would give me the chance to make my dream come true, which is becoming a writer. So, these courses will help me a lot to achieve my goals.

I would like to study these subjects in New York or Spain. I know that in these countries my writings would have more value, because I am aware that in Chile writers are not appreciated enough. 

I would take part-time courses so my life and time will not get affected, because I am not used to knowing how to separate my personal life from academics. In addition, if the pandemic keeps going I am not going out of the house, so if it ends I will happily move to those places to start the courses. 

The greatest singer of all time

 Demi Lovato are a singer, actor, activist and also a songwriter. They started as an actor on Barney, but they became known with Camp Rock, a movie where they played as Mitchie Torres. Since then, it all became a roller coaster because after that they start releasing album after album without stopping.

The reason why I admire them is because they are a strong human and despite all they have been through, they always come back on their feet. Life sucks sometimes, but with their encouraging words, their strong voice and their amazing lyrics, they embrace and mends me. So when I am listening their newest album “Dancing with the devil: the art of starting over” on repeat it feels like I am in heaven

P.S: Not long ago they came out as an non-binary person, I am still getting used to it because of the pronouns, but I am working on it.

My little Zuki

This is a photo that I took and it shows my dog when she was still a puppy, she was jumping in my bed and biting everything she could. For starters, I like this picture because I feel like it represents Zuki´s personality (she is a very playful dog, but she has her temper). Besides, she looks so little and cute that everytime I see this photograph it sends me to a happy place. I really wish that I could go back in time to laugh and enjoy more of her madness (even though she is still a crazy dog). This photo is a nice time capsule to that april of 2019, to me it is nostalgic because it makes me realize how fast the times go, at the same time I love the fact that it takes me back to the good old times!!

My beautiful notebook

 Hello!! 

My computer is a technological tool that I use and the one that I like more. Last year I was able to have my first notebook, and from the first time that I turned it on I can not stop using it. Since the classes are online, I spend all the week using it to do assignments and tests, but also I play Red Dead Redemption and those kinds of games. So, I guess that I use it way too much. 

I lived years without a computer of my own, however, now that I have the experience I can not imagine a day without it. So, everything would be boring and difficult, because if I lose this tool it would totally mess up my study and college career. 

I like the freedom that comes with it, because now its use depends on what I want or need to do.

When I was younger my dream job was to be a famous writer or a veterinary doctor, but at the moment of applying for my actual career, my options were either to be a lawyer or an environmental engineer. What made me decide my current career was that I would have the opportunity to be a writer, but also that I could cancel everyone (Piñera). 

Since it is my second year as a journalism student, my experience at university until now has been actually great, but the homework is definitely the hardest part of it. But I do not care, because when I think about my future, I really want to become an amazing writer and reporter. So, if I work hard now, I can make that happen in a couple of years.

My role model<3

Hello, this is my first post, so I'm going to introduce myself. My name is Camila Calderón and I am twenty years old. I am in my second year as a journalism student in the University of Chile. I was born and raised in Peñaflor, Santiago. 

I am the youngest in my family, but two years ago we adopted Zuki, my dog, and now she is the baby of the family. My mom owns an embroidery company and sells facemasks. My dad is an accountant in an electricity company. My older brother works in the municipality of Talagante and my other brother, who is the middle one, is finishing college.

My favorite artist is Demi Lovato and I am loving her last album “Dancing with de devil… the art of starting over”. When I am not listening to music I am playing on my computer or watching series and films.
